Parsley Lifewatch 2008

Back in July my boyfriend and I decided to adopt a basil plant named Parsley. Oh, how we doted on that plant! He lived merrily on my boyfriend's deck and now and then he'd spare us some of his leaves whenever we got it in our heads to cook a meal.

Recently, Boy went home to Wisconsin for a week and in our rush to get to the airport, neglected to find an alternative home for Parsley in his absence. To alleviate the nagging pain in our hearts, we reasoned that the deck was close to the pool, so Parsley would get enough moisture from the air to last him during the week.

We were wrong about this.

As you can see from the above photos, we are not fit to care for plastic dishware, much less complex photosynthesizing organisms. It was a truly horrific experience, seeing our poor baby clinging to life that night that I picked up my boyfriend from the airport. On the upside, look how quickly Parsley sprang back to life the very next morning!

I take full responsibility for leaving Parsley for dead. My boyfriend can take full responsibility for filling up his Brita water filter and, in what can only be characterized as a Classic Erica Move, sticking it in the freezer before leaving for vacation.

Idiots.
